Goldfinch
Song Teaching
To start with,
there are a few important facts that everyone should know. The goldfinches
have a permanent song. Once they have learned it and grown up with it, it is
nearly impossible to change it.
-
The goldfinch
sing, but it does not sing the entire year, it is not a player that you
enable or disable.
-
You cannot
teach more than one goldfinch at the same location, that is if you are
using a player – like a tape player or CD player – to teach it the new
language.
-
You can teach
one bird the other bird’s song.
Now, we will go
through things you have to take care of when finding a bird.
-
You must
take a 7-8 days old goldfinch from its nest. That is the best to do.
-
If you do
not have a bird that is that old, you must buy one with a gray beak,
not the head only, but the beak too must be gray. That is to be sure
that it is a young bird.
-
After you
find a bird with a gray beak, it is good not to buy it at the
beginning of season. Because the father might have had some faults
in his song, and this can affect the young bird. Especially in the
beginning of the season, where the father is full of energy. In the
middle or in the ending of the season, the father is not that wild.
These are the
steps you have to do in order to teach the chosen bird.
-
Make sure
that you have the specific song you want to teach the bird. And also
that you have it in a format you can easily play it.
-
And then you
put the bird in a solid place.
-
Same thing
with the player. It must be placed in a solid place.
-
Do not change
the location of either the bird or the player. That goes for the space
between the player and the bird, plus the height. They must be at the
same level of height.
-
Make sure
that the bird clearly hears the player.
-
The room must
not be empty and the walls should not be made of baton. This is because
the sound would echo back to the bird’s ears. This will make some of the
tone letters double and longer.
-
It is
recommended to cover the cage’s roof. We do this in order to make the
bird stay calm and not look up all the time.
-
It is also
recommended to make it listen to the tape at least 4 hours every day.
Make sure to split this time throughout the day, and also be sure to
play the tape when he is hungry or eating in the morning. When the bird
is hungry, it tries to listen to the tape.
-
We keep this
going on until the bird is old enough to marry. Then the song stays
permanent in its memory.
You do this
process with hybrid birds too. But you stay playing the tape for it, at
least for 3-4 years, that depends on what kind of song it is you are trying
to teach it, and which letters is used within this song. Also you should not
put it with another bird for a long period throughout these years.
After
the 1 year we can use the hybrid bird to feed young goldfinches as the
father, this will help to teach the younger birds the tone letters. When the
younger birds are 35 days old, we take the hybrid bird away from them. We
then continue with the younger birds from the same song tape, that the
hybrid father used.
This is how you
teach a bird and a hybrid bird a new song. Please be patient for now, we
will post a new topic regarding how to treat this bird in the moulting
process.
Sincerely,
Mossa
